Support for Young Entrepreneurs in the Dartmoor and South Devon Coastal areas
Posted on: 25 July 2012
A new project aims to help young entrepreneurs to set up new businesses or to develop an existing business. The project will provide funding of between £2,000 and £10,000 for up to 40% of the project costs and up to one day of one to one advice tailored to the particular business needs.
The funding is available in the Greater Dartmoor and South Devon Coastal areas. If you are between 18 and 30 and are interested in applying for funding to set up or grow a business please contact Fiona at the DR Company on fiona@DRcompany.co.uk or 01837 658643.
The funding is aimed at young people who have a strong business idea but need funding and advice to get it off the ground.
Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year.
Fiona Edwards of the economic regeneration company, DR says; “There is a growing need to offer additional support to young people if we are to have great British entrepreneurs in the future. Young people have seldom had such a harsh economic and social environment in which to risk setting up their own new business venture. We want to encourage our potential high achievers to complete their economic activity in Devon and try to halt the flow of our bright young people out of the county to larger economic centres.”
With fast transport networks, improving broadband and our exceptional quality of life here in the county, Devon is renowned as one of the best places to live and work in the UK.
The funding will support all types of business ideas but relies on the young person demonstrating that their business idea is sound and that they are capable of running a successful enterprise. Funding is limited and so if you are interested in applying you would be advised to contact Fiona soon.
The project has been developed by the DR Company and is being supported by BIP, a leading Enterprise and Business Support agency. The majority of the funding comes from the Greater Dartmoor LEAF and the South Devon Coastal LAG and is part financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas.
