Devon County Council’s Development Management Committee has rejected an application by MVV Ltd to build a Bottom Ash processing facility at Whitecleaves Quarry in Buckfastleigh.

The application also included plans for a materials recovery facility for construction and demolition waste and the removal of a dolerite outcrop.

In a well attended and lengthy meeting, Councillors on the Committee voted six to five against the application because of the impact on the local community.

Councillor James McInnes Chairman of the Development Committee said; “The Committee gave the application a very thorough examination, with wide ranging debate. Both sides for and against the application had a very fair crack of the whip.”
