A section of the A386 in Bideford closed for the next two nights

Posted on: 19 August 2019

The final phase of essential footway maintenance and road resurfacing work in The Quay, in Bideford is scheduled to take place over the next two nights (Monday 19 August and Tuesday 20 August).

The work requires a section of the A386 between the Royal Mail depot and the roundabout at the Old Bideford Bridge to be closed each night from 7pm to 7am.

On Monday evening the resurfacing will be completed and on Tuesday evening high friction surfacing will be laid.

The work has carried over from last week after a weather warning resulted in the work being cancelled last Friday.

No vehicles will be able to park on the road during the work. Access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained.

For all other vehicles a recommended diversion route in both directions using roads of equal category will be signed, although motorists with good local knowledge may use minor roads to work their way around the closure and short cut the diversions.

Where the only access to residences and businesses is through the road closure access will be permitted although people may be asked to wait a short time until it is safe to pass. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.

Work is weather dependent, and any changes to the closure dates or duration of the work will be indicated on signs on site.

The scheme will be carried out by contractor South West Highways.
