A377 at Newton St Cyres closed for overnight works in May

A section of the A377 in the Newton St Cyres area will be closed overnight for resurfacing work next month (May).

From Wednesday 1 May to Sunday 12 May the A377 will be closed between Newton St Cyres Primary School to Quickes Cheeses overnight (seven nights).

However, on Thursday 2 May, the road will remain open until polling stations close at 10pm.

Work will not take place over the weekend or on May Day Bank Holiday, Monday 6 May.

Then from Monday 13 May to Wednesday 15 May the section of the A377 through Half Moon will be closed.

All night time closures will take place from 7pm with the road reopening each day no later than 7am each following morning in order to minimise disruption to daytime traffic on this busy route.

People who live or work within the area of the closure will be allowed access to homes and businesses during the night-time closures, although they may be asked to wait a short time until it is safe to do so.

Pedestrians and cyclists who dismount will be able to use the pavement where there is one. Access will always be maintained for emergency vehicles.

An official signed diversion will be in place via the A396, Bickleigh, A3072, Crediton.

As with any road closure the recommended diversion route must use roads of equal category, although motorists with good local knowledge may use minor roads to work their way around the closure and short cut the diversions.

The wording is a bit confusing, I take it that the paragraph re nighttime closures refers to the paragraph re polling stations, and that the para re 13th-15th should come after para “Pedestrians ..” ?

Hi John. Thanks for you comment. The copy is correct though. The work at Half Moon starts today. The preceding sentences refer to work in Newton St Cyres – all that work is complete now. Many thanks.

the road was closed at 6pm last Friday which was annoying. Are the contractors allowed to close it earlier than advertised?

Hi Ali. Thanks for your comment. We will take this up with our contractor immediately. Thank you for alerting us to it.

How can I get from work when I finish at 10pm. Also the guys who start at 0600am. This makes it so awkward cheers

    • Hi. The roadworks.org website https://roadworks.org/ is a useful resource for identifying road works and where the associated diversion routes are. We have to advertise diversions using roads of the same classification to the closed road, so often the advertised diversion route is longer than the shorter routes that people, who have knowledge of the area, are likely to take. Thanks.
