There are many reasons why people experience memory problems. Commonly it is simply due to age, but sometimes it can be caused by other conditions.

These include stress or possibly the early stages of a dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Early diagnosis is incredibly important in supporting people with dementia.

Devon Partnership NHS Trust operates the Devon Memory Service, which GPs can refer people to.

The Memory Service has Memory Clinics at the acute hospitals in Torbay, Exeter and Barnstaple. The clinics offer a one-stop-shop service where people can have a brain scan and discover the cause of their memory problems – which might include a diagnosis of dementia.

They will also receive information, support and signposting to help them and their families live as well and independently as possible.
