Residents in Braunton will get a sneak preview of their revamped library this week as it opens its doors for a special community evening on Thursday 23 July.

The library has been closed for the past fortnight to allow improvement works to take place.

The layout has been improved, with the lighting and carpet replaced and the whole library has been given a fresh coat of paint.

Self service facilities have also been installed as part of the Council’s pioneering new community pilot programme to allow the Friends of Braunton Library to extend the library’s opening hours from the autumn, and WiFi will be in place in the next few weeks.

The year-long innovative partnership project, which is taking place across 12 libraries in Devon, is testing how communities can support their local libraries and expand the services they provide.

In Braunton the Friends of the Library group have been focussing on how they can host additional sessions in the library to allow people more access.

Other communities in the pilot include Ashburton, Bampton, Bovey Tracey, Colyton, Dartmouth, Ivybridge, Kingskerswell, Moretonhampstead, Ottery St Mary, Salcombe and Torrington.

The preview event will take place 5-7pm, and will be supported by the Friends of Braunton Library offering refreshments. Normal opening hours will resume from Friday 24 July.
