Drivers urged not to travel unless necessary tonight

Posted on: 3 March 2018

Motorists across Devon are still being urged not to travel unless necessary tonight and into Sunday morning.

While the situation has improved for many and a large proportion of the county’s A and B roads are now clear or passable, many minor and side roads still present a danger to drivers. There is also danger from surface water and the risk of icy patches.

All our gritters will be out again tonight as a as a precaution.

Elsewhere, access to some more isolated communities has yet to be restored and snow clearing will continue throughout tomorrow.

Crews have now broken through the drifts on the A39 to Lynton to restore a single track connection. Work will continue on this route throughout the night.

Many roads on Dartmoor and Exmoor remain dangerous for drivers – while the situation is improving residents are urged to avoid driving on the moors if possible as traffic could hamper snow clearing
