Exeter primary school set to join successful Trust

The governors of the small, Church of England school say it could join the Trust in January.
They are now asking parents for their views and staging consultations for the wider community.
In Exeter, Woodwater Academy is part of PAT and the school’s latest Ofsted report earlier this year judged it as good with outstanding features, including the leadership and management.
St David’s chair of governors, Maureen Lewis, said:
“St David’s is a very small school currently rated good by Ofsted.
“For the last two years, governors have been exploring a variety of options to see how we can secure the future of St David’s so there continues to be a viable school at the heart of our community.
“Following these extensive investigations, the governors are formally considering the option of joining PAT.”
Dr Lewis said, by joining the Trust, St David’s would widen opportunities and further improve outcomes for all its children.
They would be able to meet and work as part of larger groups drawn from other schools in the Trust and there would be more opportunities to enhance the education of the pupils through joint school events such as sports and creative projects.
There would be an opportunity to share resources and to provide greater development opportunities for staff which would enable St David’s to retain and develop valued teachers and support staff and develop successful leaders for the future.
St David’s would also be able to share best practice with other Trust schools by making full use of staff expertise in specialist areas and managing school budgets more effectively.
Parents at St David’s had the opportunity to meet and question governors and PAT representatives at the school this week. Individual meetings were also available on request. The consultation will continue until October 16.
PAT chief executive, Gary Chown, said:
“The Primary Academies Trust strives to be an educator of choice, employer of choice and a community organisation.
“I am delighted that St David’s are considering joining our successful family of schools as we collaborate to support each other to improve the life chances of all our children.”
The governors will meet later in the term to discuss the results of the consultation and make a final decision on the future.
