Posted on: 21 April 2016
Devon County Council is delighted to announce that Siân Walker will be the Chair for Devon Safeguarding Adults Board with immediate effect.
Siân has over 39 years’ experience working in social care. As a social worker, Siân began her career in inner London initially working with children and families before moving to work in training and management development, and progressing into community care services.
As well as having significant experience as a non-executive board member in the NHS, in Housing Associations, and as a Board and Committee Chair, Siân has worked in the voluntary sector and in the independent sector managing the provision of residential and day care, supported housing, and Care and Repair services for older people and people with disabilities.
Siân enjoys working in partnership across organisations and currently chairs two other Safeguarding Adults Boards as well as working part-time as a Social Care advisor with the IDeA/ Local Government Association.
She moved back to the West Country in 2003, initially working in Devon and subsequently for two local authorities in the south-west, and as a Director in Wales.
Siân is driven by a passion for ensuring all services to vulnerable people are person-centred, easy to access and importantly promote independence, whilst ensuring people are safe. She is particularly keen to ensure that the ‘Making Safeguarding Personal’ agenda is rooted throughout and across all partner organisations and that front line staff are supported to have the confidence in delivering this.
