UPDATED: Overnight closure planned for Shaldon Bridge
Posted on: 25 November 2019
Overnight maintenance work will be carried out on Shaldon Bridge over one evening next week (w/c 2 December).
The bridge is due to be closed from 7pm on Thursday (5 December) to enable repairs to be carried out to two piers of the structure.
The repairs will fill holes in the concrete foundations of these bridge piers, which had been identified during previous dive inspections. This will protect the concrete piles and foundations from further scour and damage.
The closure is needed as a crane, which will pour concrete into the foundations, will take up the whole width of the road. Every effort will be made to keep the footpath open on one side of the structure. A signed diversion will be in place until the bridge re-opens at 6am the following day (Friday 6 December).
The work is dependent on favourable weather and tides. However, repairs will be completed in one evening.
A similar closure will be needed in January but dates are yet to be confirmed.
