Overnight closures planned on Bridge Road in Exeter (9-12 Oct)

Bridge Road, Exeter

Posted on: 6 October 2017

Night time closures will be in place on Bridge Road in Exeter over four evenings next week.

The road will be closed overnight from 8:30pm to 5:30am on Monday night (9 October). It will then be closed from 10pm to 5:30am on the evenings of Tuesday (10 October), Wednesday (11 October) and Thursday (12 October). All four lanes will be open during the daytime.

The closures are to enable the construction of the mast arm for the pedestrian crossing at Glasshouse Lane, the commissioning of the moving bridges over the canal, and for surfacing and lining work to be carried out. Some of the work is weather dependent and may have to be cancelled at short notice.

The diversion route during the closures will be signed via Topsham Road, Alphington Road, Marsh Barton and the A379. Details of the diversion route are available here.

Details of changes to Stagecoach bus services will be available at https://www.stagecoachbus.com/regional-service-updates/south-west/greater-exeter

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access Bridge Road during the closures via local temporary diversions. They are advised to take care and follow the site signage and any instructions from site staff.

Further updates will be posted on the Bridge Road Widening Scheme website where you can sign up for alerts.

The situation at Bridge Road is awful The road is closed whenever they want and often there’s very few if any people working
Last night (10/10/17) the road was scheduled and advertised to close at 10pm
I arrived at Countess Wear roundabout at 8.30pm and the road was closed
The unhelpful operative wouldn’t allow me through even though the sign beside him indicated a 10pm closure
I then had another 5 mile + detour to get home
Please DCC get to grips with this awful waste of everyone’s time and money
These works were supposed to have been completed in May 2017 !

Hi Jeff. Our apologies about the problem last night. Yes, the closure was scheduled to start at 10pm. Unfortunately the sub-contractor closed it at the wrong time. By the time we were alerted to it, it was after 9pm, and too close to 10pm to ask the sub-contractor to remove the closure just to close it again shortly. Apologies to you and to anyone was inconvenienced last night with that. The issue has been reported. We’ve got overnight closures again tonight (Wednesday) and tomorrow, and they’ll be 10pm to 5:30am. Thanks.
