Reminder of upcoming Torridge Bridge refurbishment

Torridge Bridge

Posted on: 20 December 2017

Road users are being reminded that refurbishment work on Torridge Bridge, near Bideford, will get underway in the new year.

An expansion joint on the bridge is in urgent need of replacing, with work starting on site from Tuesday 2 January. However, the bulk of the work will be carried out overnight in order to minimise disruption and maintain access over the bridge.

The overnight work will be starting from Monday 8 January with temporary traffic lights in use from 7pm to 7am. Outside of these overnight working hours, both lanes of the bridge will be open.

A 20mph speed restriction, which is already in place as a temporary safety measure to protect the failed joint at the western end of the structure, will remain in place throughout the duration of the scheme.

Although the night works are starting a few days later than originally scheduled, work is still planned to be completed by Easter.
