Roadworks on A396 Cove – Tiverton road

Posted on: 26 November 2015

Road works are planned on the A396, north of the village of Cove, from the end of January until May.

The work is to replace a stretch of safety barrier and to carry out resurfacing and structural work on the road.

The work will be carried out by South West Highways Ltd and will begin on Monday 25th January 2016, for 16 weeks.

During this time, temporary traffic lights will be put in place and there will be periods when the road is closed, to ensure the workforce can safely access the areas needed.

On those occasions signs will be placed on the road in advance and local residents and businesses will be contacted in writing.

In addition two public exhibitions have been planned. The first is in Exmoor House, Dulverton, Somerset in the Exmoor National Park, between 09:30am and 11:30am on Wednesday 9th December 2015.

The second event is at Bampton Community Hall, Station Road between 09.30am and 11.30am on Friday 11th December 2015.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon Council Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “These information events are open to anyone with an interest in the scheme.
“We want to inform as many people as possible about what we are doing, why we are doing it, how long it will take and how it will affect them.”

Local County Councillor Cllr Polly Colthorpe said: “Replacing the section of safety barrier is essential but the work is bound to result in some disruption. If the closure is likely to affect you, do please visit one of the information events if you can – your local knowledge and comments may help the contractor to minimise the inconvenience caused to motorists and the general public. ”

More information is on the scheme’s dedicated webpage.
