Sunday ‘Dartmoor Rover’ train service cancelled this Sunday 4 June only
Posted on: 2 June 2017
There’ll be no Sunday ‘Dartmoor Rover’ train service between Okehampton and Exeter this Sunday, the 3 June, but it’ll be running again as normal from Sunday 11 June. Alternative transport for people planning to use that route is available.
The service is funded and commissioned by Devon County Council, and promoted by the community group, Oke Rail.
Oke Rail says on its Facebook page:
“Today we received the following communication from GWR:
“We’ve been informed today at short notice that a temporary speed restriction has been put in place over the line between Yeoford Junction and Okehampton (25mph instead of the usual 55mph). As a result our service this Sunday (4 June) will be severely impacted to the extent that we will not be able to deliver a reliable service within available resources. We have therefore agreed with Devon County Council to cancel services for this weekend and get appropriate messaging out to customers.
“We realise that this is disappointing, but hope you agree that this is better than attempting to run a service which, at best, would offer an unsatisfactory experience. We are working to get messaging out to customers and would be grateful if you could use your network to explain the situation. We understand that the issue is a short term one and expect to be operating as normal from Sunday 11 June. Dartmoor Railway will advise us accordingly.”
Customers wishing to travel from Okehampton to Exeter are recommended to use the Stagecoach bus service from Okehampton’s West Street and other stops along Fore Street and Exeter Road. The service calls at Exeter St David’s train station for onward rail connections.
Specific ‘Dartmoor Rover’ tickets are, since May, no longer available for purchase. Customers instead are recommended to purchase the normal Exeter Dayrider ticket at £5.80 for adults, which also allows unlimited travel on Stagecoach bus services within this area. Children (maximum of three) travelling with an adult, cost £1 each.
