Dr Virginia Pearson, Director of Public Health for Devon has today welcomed the continued reduction in student cases in Exeter but warns of the need for extra vigilance across the City and the rest of Devon as wider community cases rise.
A number of “pop-up” measures to support walking and cycling in Exeter are to be made permanent, while public consultation will be carried out on some of the other arrangements in the city
Overnight closures are due to get underway at Rydon Lane on weeknights from 8pm until 6am, starting on Monday (12 October) followed by overnight closures at Countess Wear roundabout from Tuesday 27 October until Tuesday 17 November
Exeter has seen a recent sharp spike in cases, most of which are in the University student population. The outbreak is currently contained, and so Exeter is not in the territory for broad lockdown within the city at this time.
Steve Brown, the Deputy Director of Public Health Devon, is thanking University students resident in Exeter for responding to the new additional measures to curb the coronavirus infection.
Devon’s infection rate is still comparatively low, but the number of positive COVID-19 tests have risen this week, in line with the national trend.
