Temporary speed restriction on westbound lane of Torridge Bridge
Posted on: 23 November 2016
A temporary 20mph speed restriction has been introduced on the westbound lane of Torridge Bridge near Bideford.
Devon County Council has implemented the precautionary safety measure this afternoon (Wednesday 23 November) after a partial failure of the west expansion joint at the Bideford end of the structure on the A39.
The speed limit, which is being reduced from 40mph to 20mph over a distance of 100 metres either side of the western expansion joint, applies only to the westbound lane. This is similar to the measures taken recently at the nearby Kenwith Viaduct.
The County Council is preparing to carry out temporary repairs which should be completed in two to three weeks time and, if successful, the speed restriction will be removed.
