Torridge Bridge to be closed overnight on Wednesday (7 March)
Posted on: 6 March 2018
Work to repair Torridge Bridge, near Bideford, is continuing as planned.
A Devon County Council refurbishment scheme is currently ongoing to replace a damaged expansion joint and cover plate.
An overnight closure will be carried out, as scheduled, on Wednesday (7 March) from 7pm until 7am the following morning in order to complete the installation of the east bound expansion joint.
A signed diversion will be in place via the Bideford Long Bridge, with a separate diversion in place for HGVs down to Torrington.
Outside of this closure, temporary traffic lights will remain in use from 7pm to 7am. Both lanes of the bridge will be open during the daytime and a precautionary 20mph speed restriction will remain in place at all times.
Initial examinations of the tensioned steel cables inside the concrete deck of the structure are continuing until Thursday (8 March) before resuming from Monday 19 March to Thursday 29 March. These inspections will be carried out using lane closures and will remain restricted from 10pm until 6am, with temporary lights being manually controlled during these hours to minimise waiting times.
