Road resurfacing and cattlegrid replacement scheme, Dartmoor

Road closed sign

Posted on: 30 August 2019

Repairs will be undertaken on a number of roads on Dartmoor in September and October.

The B3357 from Two Bridges to Dartmeet will be open under traffic lights on Monday 2 September while resurfacing is carried out.

The road will then be closed from Two Bridges to Hexworthy Turn from Tuesday 3 September to Friday 6 September, and then from Brimpts Farm to Dartmeet on Wednesday 11 September to Thursday 12 September.

Poundsgate to Dartmeet (B3357) will be closed Friday 13 September and again from Monday 16 September to Wednesday 25 September for resurfacing and replacement of cattle grids.

The official diversion route will be signed via Two Bridges, Moretonhampstead, Bovey Tracey, Ashburton and vice versa.

From Monday 30 September to Friday 11 October, resurfacing work will be carried out on the B3212 which will be closed between Warren House and Challacombe Cross. A signed diversion route will be in place via Moretonhampstead, Whiddon Down, A30, Tavistock and Two Bridges.

The B3387 at Hemsworthy Gate will be closed from Monday 7 October to Wednesday 9 October while cattle grids are replaced. The diversion route for this closure will be via Bovey Tracey, A38 and Ashburton vice versa.

All of the work is weather dependent, and any changes to the closure dates will be indicated on temporary signs on site.

When will I be able to know the road is open from two bridges to Exeter via post bridge without having to drive approx 8 miles to challacombe cross to find out. The signs have been taken away at two bridges so have been going via poundsgate and ashburton to pick up a38 road but now believe it or not this section of road is now closed at night so how do i get home? Apart from using A30 from Tavistock to Exeter via Okehampton. To be honest my 12 hour day has turned into a 14 hour day with the extra cost of fuel due to mileage thrown in – why are so many vital arteries closing in conjunction and not in a stepped process allowing road users to find “easy” viable alternatives instead of being boxed in?

Road closure sign is up on the Princetown to Yelverton road B3212 from 14th October for 5 days. Can anyone confirm whether Dousland will still be accessible from Yelverton and whether it’s a full road closure or overnight. A lot of people use that road to get to and from work & school. It will add another 1/2 hour to the journey via Pork Hill.

    • Hi Christine, The section of B3212 road to be closed will be from the cattle grid near Peek Hill for a 3 mile section toward Princetown. Dousland will be accessible from Yelverton. I have asked the contractor to provide an additional sign (next to ROAD AHEAD CLOSED) stating ACCESS TO DOUSLAND from that end.

This update is dated 30 August almost a month ago. I am trying to find out if the recent bad weather has delayed the programme. But I can’t find anything else on the website. Is there current information? If not a disgrace. If so the website needs redesign as I can only find this out of date information but not the current information.
