We all have a favourite park and now’s the time to vote for yours

Green Flag Award

Posted on: 7 September 2018

Vote for Devon County Council’s country parks and show how the UK loves green spaces.

The experts have had their say and in July Stover Country Park and the Grand Western Canal Country Park were both given prestigious Green Flag Awards.

The double accolade now puts the two parks, which are managed by Devon County Council, among the very best in the world.   They increased their scores from last year, and now fall within the very top bracket for parks, not only in the UK but across the world.

Now, the Award Scheme is asking the nation to have its say and decide which parks and green spaces should receive the People’s Choice Award for being the UK’s favourites.

Whether you enjoy visiting to walk the dog, exercise or simply get away from the hustle and bustle, if you think your favourite deserves to be in the top 10 People’s Choice then cast your vote.

All you have to do is  find your park on the winners map and click the voting button. Once you’ve registered your vote, why not encourage others to get involved too through social media using the hashtag #PeoplesChoice.

Devon County Council’s Cabinet member for Environmental Services, Councillor Roger Croad, said: “We know how much these two parks matter to residents and visitors, and this gives them the opportunity to celebrate their presence and the work that goes into maintaining them to such a high standard.”

Voting opens 1 September and closes 30 September, with the top 10 sites being announced on 16 October.

The Grand Western Canal is a great asset to Tiverton and is being improved all the time.
I live at the top of Canal hill and I go there all the time.

The variety of spectacular views from the Grand Western Canal attracts many from near and far. Let;s keep it that way!

I have enjoyed many a walk with my children and grandchidren at Stover park it brings back great joy and memories. I live in Plymouth but my children and grandchildren live in Newton Abbot. I feel so very blessed to live in a county which takes care of its parks, green areas and obviously the wonderful country lanes that we can walk and have fun together. Thank you to all the Park employees and nature reserve volunteers for making our county so lovely. .

  4. Christine Channon says:

Although both parks have a lot to offer. I vote that Stover is the most attractive and interesting
